What retinal actually does — and why it outperforms retinol

What to Expect — Your Skin on a Timeline

Pro Tip

The most common retinal mistake is applying it on damp skin.

Always wait until skin is fully dry — it controls penetration rate and prevents unnecessary sensitivity, especially in the first month.

Retinal at 0.2% — supported to actually deliver

Every ingredient in this formula exists to either drive renewal or protect the barrier while renewal happens. Nothing is added for label appeal.

Retinal 0.2%

Retinaldehyde — the aldehyde form of vitamin A, one enzymatic step away from retinoic acid. The most potent retinoid available without prescription.

What it does for your skin

Directly stimulates cell renewal by activating retinoic acid receptors in keratinocytes. Drives collagen synthesis in fibroblasts. Visibly smooths texture, reduces fine lines, and improves skin density with consistent PM use.

Why it matters

Retinol requires two conversion steps. Retinal requires one. The speed of conversion is the speed of results — and the reason retinal at 0.2% outperforms retinol at equivalent or higher concentrations.

Ceramide NP + Cholesterol + Linoleic Acid

The three essential lipids of the skin's lamellar barrier structure — the same complete complex in every MISOORA formula.

What it does for your skin

Maintains barrier integrity while retinal drives active cell renewal. Prevents TEWL, reduces the dryness and flaking that makes retinoids uncomfortable. Keeps the surface calm while the formula works below.

Why it matters

Retinal without barrier support is how you get irritation. Retinal with a complete lipid complex is how you stay on it long enough to see results.

Bisabolol 0.5%

A natural anti-inflammatory active from chamomile — one of the best-researched calming agents in dermatological formulation.

What it does for your skin

Reduces the inflammatory response retinal can trigger in early use. Calms redness and sensitization. Allows the renewal process to run without the skin reacting against it.

Why it matters

Bisabolol is specifically validated for pairing with retinoids — it addresses the exact mechanism of retinal-induced inflammation.

Beta-Glucan 0.5%

A polysaccharide derived from oat — one of the most effective barrier-strengthening and anti-inflammatory molecules in cosmetic chemistry.

What it does for your skin

Activates immune-calming receptors in skin, suppresses inflammatory cytokines triggered by retinoid use, and strengthens barrier function. Keeps skin resilient during the turnover cycle.

Why it matters

At 0.5%, this is a functional anti-inflammatory dose — not a trace addition. It's the second layer of protection alongside bisabolol.

Centella Asiatica Extract 0.8%

A botanical extract standardized for triterpenoid actives — one of the most-studied calming and collagen-supporting plant ingredients in cosmetic dermatology.

What it does for your skin

Reduces redness and calms skin reactivity. Supports collagen synthesis alongside retinal for an amplified structural effect. Speeds surface recovery after cell turnover.

Why it matters

Centella works synergistically with retinal — calming the inflammatory side effect while contributing its own collagen signal to the same pathway.

Ergothioneine 0.05%

A rare amino acid and mitochondrial antioxidant — the same active present in every MISOORA formula at functional concentration.

What it does for your skin

Protects skin cells from oxidative stress during active cell renewal. Preserves the mitochondrial function that powers the entire repair process.

Why it matters

Cell renewal is metabolically demanding. Ergothioneine ensures the cellular machinery running the renewal cycle isn't simultaneously being damaged by oxidative stress.

MISOORA evening routine. Built to work together

Step 1 — MISOORA Cleanser

Start with a gentle, pH-balanced cleanser. Pat skin until damp — not dripping. Damp skin absorbs actives faster and deeper.

Step 2 — MISOORA Retinal Serum

Evening is when retinal works best — skin repair cycles peak overnight. Apply before PDRN on dry skin.

Step 3 — MISOORA PDRN+EXOSOME+EGF Serum

PDRN (Polydeoxyribonucleotide) is a cellular repair signal that works synergistically with retinal. Apply immediately after retinal, press gently in.

Step 3 — MISOORA Moisturizer

Seal the serum in with your moisturizer. Follow immediately with SPF 30 or higher. The moisturizer locks the NAD+ actives in place and extends their working time through the day.

Our Mission

MISOORA is a K-beauty brand designed around skin longevity. We take biotech actives — NAD+, PDRN, Exosomes, EGF, and Retinaldehyde — and build them into one daily routine, at concentrations we publish openly, at a price that keeps clinic-grade science within reach.

We're not here to help you fight your age. We're here to help your skin stay resilient — on your terms, with science you can actually check.

Why Longevity, Not Anti-Aging

Anti-aging asks your skin to apologize for time. Longevity asks a better question: how do your skin cells keep doing their job as the years add up?

The honest part: no single product does this. Skin longevity is a practice, the way sleep, nutrition, and movement compound over time. That's why MISOORA is a five-piece range meant to be used as one routine — organized around three ideas: Wellness, Recharge, Longevity.

What To Expect

Real change takes consistency, not a single bottle. Here's an honest timeline for using the full routine as directed (individual results vary):

  • Days 1–7 — Comfort. Skin feels cleaner without tightness; the barrier feels calmer. The cleanser and moisturizer do the quiet work.
  • Weeks 2–4 — Glow & smoothness. Most people notice softer texture and a healthier-looking glow as renewal actives settle in.
  • Weeks 4–8 — Firmness & tone. With nightly retinaldehyde and the NAD+/PDRN serums, this is typically when the look of firmness and more even tone becomes visible.
  • Week 12+ — Compounding. Like any longevity practice, the results build the longer you stay consistent.

Where MISOORA Comes From

MISOORA is created at the intersection of Korean formulation science and American expectations. The longevity conversation has mostly lived at the luxury tier. Our wager is that it doesn't have to stay there — so we built the routine natively within the shift, not retrofitted to it.

How It's Made — Standards & Safety

We hold our manufacturing to standards we can prove, not just claim:

  • MoCRA registered under the U.S. Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act.
  • FDA product listing for our products, per U.S. cosmetic requirements.
  • Independent third-party testing (Intertek): microbiological testing, heavy-metals testing, and 1,4-dioxane analysis.
  • USP <51> challenge test — antimicrobial effectiveness validated.
  • Documentation on file: COA (Certificate of Analysis) and MSDS, available on request.
  • cruelty-free

Every batch is backed by paper, not promises.

So Glad I Listened to My Esthetician

This was my first time using a retinal serum, and I'm so glad I took my esthetician's recommendation! I was a little surprised by the bright yellow color at first, but after seeing the results, I completely understood why everyone loves retinal.

The serum feels lightweight, absorbs quickly, and layers beautifully with the rest of my skincare. After just a short time, my skin looked smoother, brighter, and more even. I wake up every morning with healthy-looking, glowing skin.

This has officially become a must-have in my routine. I honestly can't imagine my skincare without it now!

    Effective, but not aggressive

I’ve been using different retinol products for over a year, and honestly, I was starting to feel frustrated. Most of them either felt too harsh or didn’t really do much.

Misoora Retinal 0.2% is the first retinal serum that feels like it actually works with my skin, not against it.

It’s strong enough to feel like it’s actually working, but still comfortable on my skin. No heavy irritation, no “my skin is angry” feeling, just smoother, fresher-looking skin over time.

I also love that it supports the skin barrier, because with retinal, that really matters.

finally a retinal for rosacea-prone skin

I'm rosacea prone so retinoids usually = disaster. This one I worked up very slowly and my skin tolerated it beautifully. No new flushing. After 6 weeks my complexion is more unified and those tomato-toned patches on my cheeks have calmed. Cautiously thrilled.

    Super working retinal!!!

I absolutely love this 0.2% retinal serum! I noticed the first results after just three weeks of consistent use. It has completely evened out my skin tone, smoothed out fine lines, and visibly minimized my pores. However, the real game-changer was using it in combination with the PDRN serum from the same brand. Together, they work like magic and deliver an amazing boost to the skin. Highly recommend this routine!

Frequently Asked Questions

Retinol and retinal are both vitamin A derivatives, but they're not equivalent. Retinol must convert to retinaldehyde (retinal), then to retinoic acid before it can act in skin. Retinal skips the first step — it converts directly to retinoic acid. That one fewer conversion step means meaningfully faster results at the same or lower concentration. Retinal at 0.2% outperforms retinol at 0.5–1% in most clinical comparisons.

Some users experience mild dryness or sensitivity in the first 1–2 weeks — this is a normal adjustment response, not an allergic reaction. The formula includes a full anti-inflammatory layer (Bisabolol, Beta-Glucan, Centella Asiatica, Allantoin) and a complete barrier lipid complex to keep this manageable. Start every other night if you're new to retinoids. Most users adapt within 2 weeks and move to nightly use.

Yes — this is the intended use. Retinal goes first on completely dry skin, then PDRN+Exosome+EGF goes second. The retinal activates cell renewal and transiently increases skin permeability; the PDRN and EGF deliver repair signals into an already-primed surface. They are designed for this exact layering order.

No — retinal degrades under UV exposure and should only be used at night. Always apply SPF 30+ in the morning when using any retinoid. Morning is the NAD+ Firming Serum routine.

Start every other evening for the first 2 weeks to allow skin to acclimate. Apply on dry skin, use the full MISOORA moisturizer to seal it in, and do not combine with any other active exfoliants in the PM routine. Most users with no prior retinoid experience do well with this approach. If you experience significant sensitivity, reduce to twice a week and build up more slowly.

No. Avoid all retinoids — including retinal, retinol, and retinaldehyde — during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Consult your OB before using any vitamin A derivative during this period.

Retinal Awakening Serum is the core PM renewal driver — it anchors the evening routine. It pairs with PDRN+Exosome+EGF Serum (regeneration) in the same nightly stack, and complements the NAD+ Firming Serum (morning energy + firming) in the full MISOORA system. Together they cover the full 24-hour skin renewal cycle: NAD+ powers cellular energy by day; Retinal drives renewal at night; PDRN+EGF+Exosomes repair and regenerate while you sleep.

Two things: the anti-irritation system and the integration. Most retinal serums deliver the active and stop there. MISOORA wraps retinal in a complete barrier lipid complex (the same ceramide-cholesterol-linoleic acid trio in every MISOORA formula) plus a three-layer anti-inflammatory system (bisabolol, beta-glucan, centella). It's designed to stay on your skin without forcing you to rotate off it. And it's the only retinal serum built to layer directly with PDRN, Exosomes, and EGF in the same PM routine.
